Although… really… at the same time, they’re only furthering the stigmatization of tattoos when there’s nothing wrong with having a tattoo.

I’d almost argue that in a way they aren’t. Basically, they have said “don’t get a stupid tattoo.” But, they haven’t said “Don’t get a tattoo.” While I agree they aren’t saying that tattoos are nothing particularly unusual, the view is kinda neutral on the idea.

You know what actually this part really pissed me off. Not that people stood behind Harry but because Pansy is being vilified for that totally legitimate action: Voldemort, the terror of their time, the dark wizard of all dark wizards, is going to spare their lives if he’s given this ONE KID. These are all children, she wants her life, she wants her friends to live, she doesn’t want war and fighting and death. She thinks sacrificing that one life is better than causing the deaths of all these other people, including herself. And everyone acts like this is a shameful decision and she’s a horrible person for thinking it, well fuck that.

And then ALL the Slytherins get locked up in the dungeon as if they’re going to turn traitor on them, completely negating any sense of unity and friendship that the stupid hat was singing about a couple books back. Fuck this scene and the judgey people and couldn’t someone have looked at Pansy sympathetically and said the fighting wouldn’t end with that one sacrifice or that Voldemort was too far gone and too evil to be bargaining with and that this was worth fighting for? Couldn’t they have been given any sympathy or understanding at all?

Basically, the TL;DR version, is that sacrificing the liberty of another for your own safety is not legitimate, is not the right course of action, but it cowardice in its highest form, and an act which should be vilified. There is no shame in choosing not to fight, but there is in being willing to sacrifice another against their will, in sacrificing the tenets of your morality, and in letting those who will come after you suffer for your safety today, and that is was Pansy did.

Having an eating disorder means you have an eating disorder, not that you have lost of sense of good and bad and joined the dark side of the force. It’s like the notion that a person with an addiction is the problem. The person is not their addiction. They are not the problem. The damned addiction is. So stop with the notion that, because someone is struggling with something, that makes them intrinsically less than who they actually are.*

I totally get where you’re coming from, and I completely agree that having an ED does not make you a bad person. The reason I find this so powerful is because from my experiences (having my best friend have an eating disorder), making it into a joke lightens the mood and makes the recovery less stressful for them. I am a go to person for someone with an eating disorder, and I accept fully everything about it, as do I do my best to understand. I did not post this picture out of ignorance, and I really hope you don’t think I did. I thought it was cute, and sweet, and showed acceptance for those with eating disorders by not scrutinizing those who have one. As for the gender thing, I didn’t make this so I don’t have to do with it. I do, however, acknowledge and understand that not only girls have eating disorders.

I am sorry if I came off as ignorant by posting this picture.

I know what you mean. It’s just one of those things where, if a person actually is in a place where they see how serious it is, lightening the mood can and does help. But inevitably, someone without that experience will see it, and it under-minds the gravity of the problems at hand. Honestly, I might say this sort of thing to a close friend. But, without that context of that bond, and without that close relationship to define what the words mean, that they mean “I know times are tough, but you have to try and smile even when you want to cry your heart out, because when we least want to smile is when we most need to”, it becomes a comment which can hurt. It’s like a lot of things in friendship: Without the context, the compliment (or in this case humourous words of encouragement) becomes hurtful.
